Ahmed Hassen Omer & Yonas Beyene récompensés / awarded

On Thursday, February 11 2016, two researchers associated to the French Centre for Ethiopian Studies have been confered the title of « Officiers de l’Ordre des Palmes académiques« , a title awarding outstanding achievements in the fields of education and research. Historian Ahmed Hassen Omer, director of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies at Addis Ababa University, and prehistorian Yonas Beyene, co-head of several international paleoanthropological research projects in Ethiopia, received their awards from the French Ambassador to Ethiopia,  Mme Brigitte Collet, at the French Embassy. New geological and palaeontological age constraint for the gorilla–human lineage split

PUBLICATION

A study published in Nature on February 10th 2016 indicates that the divergence between humans and gorillas took place more than 8 million years ago. This discovery was made possible by new paleontological and geological work performed at Chorora, in eastern Ethiopia, by an international research team directed by researchers from Ethiopia and Japan (University of Tokyo). Two members of the French Centre for Ethiopian Studies coauthored this study: Yonas Beyene (prehistorian, co-leader of the research) 1, and Jean-Renaud Boisserie (paleontologist, CNRS researcher)2.
