6:15 PM – Lecture “Lucy: scientific facts and myths”
By Dr. Jean-Renaud Boisserie (CNRS research director, French Centre for Ethiopian Studies, associate Fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences)
& Sahleselasie Melaku (Head and Research Associate, Paleontology and Paleoanthropology Dept., Ethiopian Heritage Authority)
Two paleontologists from the Ethiopian Heritage Authority and from the CNRS will offer a reappraisal of the story of Lucy presented in the documentary. What were the circumstances surrounding her discovery, and who were the key players? This historical exercise will be an opportunity to delve into the reality of scientific research operation. They will also discuss the following interrogations: What is Lucy’s scientific legacy? Fifty years later, where does she fit in among a wide range of new discoveries that have profoundly changed our understanding of human evolution? And finally, what does Lucy really mean for humankind today?
The two researchers will discuss these questions with the audience.
7:30 PM – Concert to conclude the evening.
