By Gioia Toscani De Col
Thursday 13th March, 4 PM
At CFEE Library Berhanu Abebe, 50m before the entrance of Jan Meda
Gioia Toscani De Col is collaborating with the Museum of Civilizations in Rome and Visiting researcher at the Institute of Ethiopian Studies at the Addis Ababa University. Her scientific interests include Ethiopian Modern Art, Decolonial Museology and Critical Heritage Studies.
The seminar will present the preliminary findings of a PhD research project conducted over the past two years between Addis Ababa and Rome. The study aims to examine the legacies of the Italian invasion of Ethiopia as reflected in material cultural heritage, including paintings, sculptures, and monuments. Through a comparative and transnational analysis, the research explores differing historical perspectives on events involving both Italians and Ethiopians, spanning from the late 19th century to the period of Italian occupation (1936–1941).
