The 22nd edition of the International Conference on Ethiopian Studies (ICES) will take place at Hawassa University in Ethiopia, from September 29 to October 3, 2025. Held every three years, this conference is a major international academic event that brings together scholars working on Ethiopia and the broader Horn of Africa region.
ICES welcomes contributions from a wide range of disciplines – including history, linguistics, anthropology, archaeology, and the social sciences – reflecting the diversity and depth of Ethiopian studies. The 2025 edition will be held under the theme: “Ethiopia in Transition: Heritage, Innovation, and Future Pathways.” This theme invites participants to reflect on the transformations shaping the country today, at the intersection of historical legacies, contemporary dynamics, and future directions. The conference fosters interdisciplinary dialogue and international scholarly exchange, contributing to the ongoing development of knowledge on Ethiopia and its regional context.
All the panels proposed by the CFEE researchers and affiliated scholars have been compiled in one document, to enhance visibility and encourage broad participation to the conference.
