CFEE Seminar – Between Lake and Land: New Paleoanthropological research in Fejej
7th of May 2026, 2:00pm (UTC+3), at the French Center for Ethiopian Studies, Addis Ababa
By Anna Echassoux – Director General, Institut de Paléontologie Humaine (Fondation Albert Ier, Prince de Monaco)
This seminar presents ongoing research conducted by the Institut de Paléontologie Humaine (Albert I, Prince of Monaco Foundation) in the Fejej region, in the far south of Ethiopia, near the Kenyan border and the eastern shore of Lake Turkana.
Located north of the well-known Koobi Fora formation, this region reveals a complex and still partly mysterious sequence dating back more than 4 million years, alternating between lacustrine and terrestrial environments, barren areas, and hominin-bearing sites.
Through successive field missions and ongoing analyses, researchers are gradually gaining a better understanding of this complex setting, its formation, and the fossils it has yielded.
