List of the recipients of the CFEE 2017 Field Grants
Suite à l’appel à candidature 2017 pour des financements partiels permettant la réalisation de missions de terrains et/ou l’étude de collections dans les musées aux étudiants et doctorants travaillant sur l’Éthiopie et la Corne de l’Afrique, le comité scientifique du Centre français des Études éthiopiennes d’Addis-Abeba a sélectionné 15 lauréats dont voici la liste.
Following our 2017 call for application for partial funds for field works and/or study of collections in the museums to students and PhD candidates doing their researches on Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa, the scientific committee of the CFEE has selected 15 recipients (see the list below).

- Haileyesus Alebachew (PhD Candidate, Addis Ababa University): “Enoch as depicted in the poetic genres of gǝ‘ǝz literature: textual annalysis and annotated translation: on some selected poetic gǝ‘ǝz texts”
- Asfaw Tilahun Feleke (PhD Candidate, Addis Ababa University) : “Edition, Translation and Historical Analysis of the manuscript of the History of the Kings (Tarika Nagast) of Zuramba Dabra Ṣerḥa Aryām monastery (South Gondar, Ethiopia, 19th c.)”

Peace and security: Conflicts in the Horn of Africa, peacekeeping operations, and international organisations
- Marine Gassier (PhD Candidate, Sciences Po Paris): “De la rébellion au gouvernement: analyse compare des crises internes aux mouvements d’insurrection en Ethiopie (1974-2012) et au Sud Soudan (1983-2013)”

- Kefyalew Tessema Semu (PhD Candidate, Addis Ababa University): “Dube Nationality and Their Neighbors: Identity and Interrelationships of Peoples and Polities in the Lowlands of Bale, C. 1880s-1990s”
Women and gender in the Horn of Africa: constructions and social dynamics
- Romina Istratii (PhD Candidate, University of London): “Exploring the gender and religio-cultural underpinnings of spousal abuse attitudes among Orthodox Täwahәdo Christians in Tigray, Northern Ethiopia, with the aim of identifying implications for behavioural and normative change within the local knowledge system”
Ethiopian heritage in the making
- Anaïs Maro (PhD Candidate, Queensland University): “Translocal Oromo music. Identity co-construction in music videos”.
During the academic year 2017-2018, these Masters and PhD students will partake in the activities of the CFEE research programs and the CFEE seminars.
Two additional PhD candidates have also received a CFEE grant, with the support of the French Embassy in Ethiopia, for their current training in applied linguistics in French.

- Nigatu Bayissa Yaaii (PhD Candidate, Université de Haute-Alsace Mulhouse): “Interférence de la LM dans l’Enseignement /Apprentissage du FLE : cas des étudiants amharophones et oromophones à l’Université d’Arsi, Ethiopie”
