An exhibition “Walking the City’s Past” organized by the CFEE will be held at the Alliance Ethio-Française, June 11-23, 2018.

This exhibition will present Addis Ababa Old Piazza. 3 Self-Guided Tours, the third volume of the Ethiopia City Guides series published by the CFEE and Lit Verlag (see our previous post here: cfee.hypotheses.org/2714).

A Guide to Old Piazza, Addis Ababa

Historic centers even when under the threat of inner city deterioration can offer a real opportunity to look at urban history. This is the case of the Piazza neighborhood in Addis Ababa, which was in the early 20th century the economic center of the new capital – and of Menelik II’s empire. Today many residences and commercial buildings are still reminiscent of the city’s past appearance from the late 1880s to the Italian redesign of the 1930s.
