International Workshop, May 5, 2015 at the French Research Centre in Jerusalem: East African Migrations in the Middle East: A Reassessment

The International Workshop on ‘East African Migrations in the Middle East: A Reassessment’ organized by the French Research Centre in Jerusalem (CRFJ) and co-sponsored by the French Centre for Ethiopian Studies (CFEE) was held in Jerusalem on May 5, 2015 (read the program on CRFJ website: http://www.crfj.org/?p=3773). The aim of the workshop was to create a forum for policy makers and scholars (both advanced and young scholars) to discuss on the new trends in the existing research on migration and to offer new, interdisciplinary and trans-global research paradigms. In the workshop, papers focused on East African migrations in the Middle East were presented by scholars coming from France, Israel and Ethiopia and from a wide range of disciplines in the field of social sciences and humanities.

CFP: Migrations et exils dans la Corne / Migration and exile in the Horn

Conférence internationale, Khartoum, du 16 au 18 novembre 2015 / International conference, Khartoum, November 16-18th 2015

Cette conférence co-organisée par le CEDEJ de Khartoum et le CFEE d’Addis-Abeba, avec le soutien de l’Institut français (Paris), vise à faire un état des lieux de la recherche en sciences sociales sur les migrations de la Corne de l’Afrique à partir des travaux récents menés à la fois dans les régions d’origine, les régions de transit et celles de destination des migrants et des réfugiés.

CEDEJ (French Research Centre for Social Sciences) in Khartoum and CFEE (French Centre for Ethiopian Studies) in Addis Ababa invite interested participants to a scientific conference supported by the Institut français (Paris). The conference aims to create an overview of the current state of research on migrations in the Horn of Africa. It will focus on the recent fieldwork conducted in the migrants’ and exilees’ areas of origins, transit and destination.

Slafco2014 | Esclavage en Afrique : histoire, héritages et actualité / Slavery in Africa: past, legacies and present

COLLOQUE / SYMPOSIUM

Les 26, 27 et 28 octobre 2014 se tiendra à Nairobi la conférence internationale Slafco2014 : Esclavage en Afrique : histoire, héritages. Le CFEE est partenaire de cet évènement où l’Éthiopie et la Corne de l’Afrique seront bien représentées. Un moment important pour cette thématique de recherche encore neuve dans la région.

The international conference Slafco2014: Slavery in Africa: past, legacies and present will be held in Nairobi on October 26th, 27th and 28th 2014. The CFEE is a partner of this event, where Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa will be well represented. This is an important moment for this quite new research topic in the region.
