Selamawit Mecca: The bound bodies of Ethiopian women saints

ENTRETIEN / INTERVIEW

Thursday, March 5th 2015, Selamawit Mecca has successfully defended her PhD thesis in literature, entitled Bound bodies: Representation of Ethiopian Women Saints in Ge’ez Hagiographies, at Addis Ababa University (advisors: Shiferaw Bekele and Marie-Laure Derat). Selamawit Mecca is a pionneer of the history of religious women in Ethiopia. Her thesis explores the way the hagiographic literature deals with the corporeal experience of the nuns who became saints. Supported in her research by CFEE since several years, she is a member of the CFEE research program « Women and gender in the Horn of Africa: social constructions and dynamics ».

Manuscrits chrétiens et islamiques d’Ethiopie / Christian and Islamic manuscripts in Ethiopia

ATELIER / WORKSHOP

Les 12 et 13 décembre 2014 se tiendront à la Bibliothèque nationale de France (site Richelieu), à Paris, les Journées internationales « Manuscrits chrétiens et islamiques d’Éthiopie : une approche comparative (XIIe-XXe siècle) ». Le CFEE est partenaire de cet évènement.

International workshop « Christian and Islamic manuscripts in Ethiopia: a comparative approach (12th-20th century) » will be held at the National Library of France (Richelieu site), Paris, on December 12th and 13th 2014. The CFEE supports this event.
